Outstanding Meritage from First Nations winery

National Aboriginal Day is this coming Wednesday, June 21, so why not celebrate with a beautiful wine from a First Nations-owned winery? The top wine from Nk'Mip, Canada's first Aboriginal-owned winery, this beautiful red blend is a lovely way to mark a special occasion.

The word Mer’r’iym (pronounced mur’-eem’) means “marriage” in the indigenous language of the Osoyoos Indian Band, and it's a wonderful description for this Meritage.

The 2014 vintage is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon (55 per cent), plus 30 per cent Merlot, 10 per cent Cabernet Franc and just a hint (five per cent) of Malbec.

Dried herbs, tobacco, dark fruit (blackcurrant, cherries), chocolate and cherries.

Full-bodied and complex, with a finish that goes on for ages. Pair with prime rib or steak. About $55.
