Forty Creek Old Pal
Looking for a cool cocktail that's fast to assemble, but delicious? Try this recipe from the folks at Forty Creek, Canada's fifth-largest domestic whisky brand.
Forty Creek's founder John Hall started his career as a winemaker in Niagara, Ont., Canada, before trying his hand at distilling in 1992. The rest, as the expression goes, is history. He still heads up the distillery side of the business, although he sold the operation to Campari in 2014.
Barrel Select is Forty Creek's first whisky. A multiple award-winning whisky, it spends at least three years in a mix of ex-Bourbon barrels and new American white oak. The result? A smooth and intense Canadian whisky, with big, bold flavours of vanilla, cocoa, spice and honey.
While we show it here in a cocktail, it's a fine sipper served neat or on ice.
1.5 oz Forty Creek Barrel Select
0.75 oz Campari
0.75 oz Dry Vermouth
Stir all ingredients in a mixing jar over ice. Serve straight up in a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with an orange twist. Serves one.
